Blog Journal 2

I have easily lost track of the countless essays that I have written for my classes (especially in English) in high school and college. However, I have never really dived into the “creative” part of Word and really only use it to get my essays done. I know all the basic stuff and usually I can find my way around formatting pretty easily. So far, I have seen my teachers have the same kind of relationship with Word, in just using it for creating reviews and sample papers but nothing close to using Word to its full extent.
My experience with copyright and fair use has been very minimal, it’s not talked about probably as much as it should be (mostly teachers will just talk about plagiarizing other students work opposed to random people on the internet). Citations have always been a big deal, but it is typically just something that has been done to get a good grade and not actually realizing the importance of citing someone else’s work. As a teacher, I would want to emphasize this importance to students and utilize essential tools such as TurnItIn.com to help control plagiarism/copyright in the classroom. As for developing my own instructional materials, I do want to utilize helpful reviews that come from the internet but also fairly treat the company that supplies them.
Cyberbullying is a serious problem that often gets discredited because of the outdated videos they show in classrooms that lead students to believe that it is not a legitimate issue in our society. In my classroom, I would want to emphasize the severity of the problem and exemplify situations in the real world that have real consequences.
Academic dishonesty is also introduced even more when technology is implemented in a classroom because of the ease of access to other’s works and even websites that make cheating way too easy. As mentioned before, I want to use tools such as Turnitin in order to make it easier for me to catch the problem, as well as discourage students to participate in it.
